A decorative replica of the katana wielded by Kai in the film 47 Ronin, this piece measures 104 cm long, with a 69 cm blunt stainless steel blade. The black metal guard is inspired by the aesthetic of the Tengu, Japanese mythological figures associated with martial arts and protection. The natural light wood scabbard is adorned with a traditional black cord, in a simple and elegant style that reflects the character's simplicity.
In 47 Rōnin (2013), Kai, played by Keanu Reeves, is a mixed-race character, rejected by traditional Japanese society but deeply connected to legends and supernatural forces. Raised by the Tengu, mythical creatures both feared and respected in Japanese folklore, he developed a unique martial art, fueled by discipline, speed, and spiritual mastery.
This katana, commonly called a "Tengu katana," is Kai's signature weapon, a symbol of his dual heritage: human and supernatural. Its design is visually inspired by the training he received from the Tengu. The black metal guard recalls the wings or warrior fans associated with these creatures, often depicted as temple protectors or martial masters.
The blade, made of unsharpened stainless steel, measures 69 cm. It is mounted on a black handle with traditional braiding, featuring imitation white stingray skin. The scabbard, made of light natural wood, contrasts with the sobriety of the handle and is distinguished by the presence of a black cord, typical of weapons ready to be tied to the belt of a warrior in motion.
This decorative katana doesn't just represent a movie character: it pays homage to an important aspect of Japanese myth, that of the Tengu, combining spirituality, hidden power, and the quest for justice.
